Architecture
Guardian facilities present two faces. The exterior is fortress — reinforced walls, visible defensive emplacements, a perimeter that communicates the building can survive what the neighborhood cannot. The interior splits along a precise line: who is paying and who is being paid. Client-facing areas have warm wood paneling, comfortable seating, and security consultants trained to make fear feel like reasonable caution. Command centers behind them have banks of tactical displays, threat maps, and the flat institutional lighting of rooms without windows. Training facilities — gyms, ranges, combat arenas — occupy the middle floors. The lower levels have no wood paneling.
The Watchtower sits on the Long Mile in the heart of the Gauntlet Dregs — a fortress in the most dangerous corridor in the Sprawl. The Ridgeline above in Sector 13 hosts Guardian's surveillance arrays and secondary command, providing the high ground that watches the flatlands below. Judge Dreg walks those same flatlands without Guardian authorization, producing the outcomes Guardian claims to produce. He was trained by Guardian. He uses their methods. The distinction is that he's actually trying to get it right.

Executives wear military-style formal dress with corporate polish. Field officers wear tactical uniforms in navy and silver, body armor, visible weapons. Security consultants wear business professional with subtle tactical elements — a collar slightly too structured, a watch that does more than tell time. Combat athletes wear Guardian-branded gear. Guardian Intelligence aggregates surveillance technology, threat assessment, and data. Feeds information to Guardian's security divisions and, through licensing agreements, to eleven other Rothwell corporate subsidiaries. The licensing agreements are not mentioned in Guardian Home marketing materials. Corporate History

The Collective has published data — unverified, widely circulated — mapping Guardian Arms distribution patterns against Guardian Home installation spikes across forty-seven sectors over three years. The Collective's methodology treats correlation as causation. Guardian's rebuttal treats correlation as coincidence. Guardian's earnest position is that the threat is real, that the data confirms it, and that vigilance is the only honest response to a Sprawl in which only the unprotected pretend otherwise. The Collective considers Guardian's earnest position to be itself the evidence. Guardian considers the Collective's position to be itself the negligence. Both correspondences are filed.
The Chef's territorial expansion through the Dregs illustrates the pattern in miniature. The Feast's protection of its feeding territories has displaced three Guardian Protection Services contracts in the past year — Dregs residents choosing The Chef's earned loyalty over Guardian's invoiced coverage. Guardian's response has not been to improve service. Guardian's response has been to increase threat reporting in adjacent sectors, driving demand inward from the edges. GG — whose mother's death Guardian's bureaucratic denial process caused — has made the corporation her primary target. Her attacks on Guardian infrastructure appear in no crime reporting feed. The feeds are Guardian-sponsored. The editorial board categorizes stories in which Guardian is the threat as "categorically miscoded" — the defense cannot, by definition, be the harm; the proposition does not parse; submitted drafts are returned to the desk for revision.
The Dead Hand Rule
Guardian's autonomous platforms carry a design choice that the rest of the agentic economy has quietly abandoned, and Guardian's reason for keeping it is colder than safety.

The tell is what Guardian didn't gate. The [Tactical Support Asset](tactical-support-asset), built on the same production lines, has no Dead Hand Rule, because its containment harms are "non-lethal" and non-lethal acts were never thought to need a defendant — so when a containment field crushes the wrong person, the incident report has a field for the serial number and none for a name. Guardian installed a signature exactly where the act was visible enough to require a culprit and omitted it exactly where the harm was deniable. The Fifty-One Meters
