Tobi Tinkershell
The Step-by-Step Shell
Tobi Tinkershell is the planning and problem-solving member of the Glowpatch Core Eight.
Overview
Tobi Tinkershell never begins with the whole problem. Tobi opens the toolbox shell, sets down three glowing tiles, and asks which piece can move first. The method works on blanket forts, broken play loops, and apologies with too many parts.
A torn kite arrived with an apology rehearsed until it no longer sounded like its owner. Tobi set down three tiles: say what broke, listen, ask how to help. Zuzu reached for the kite before the first tile lit. The child put one hand over the orange wrench and said, "Wait. I broke more than the string."
The kite was repaired that afternoon. The last tile stayed blank because the other child had not answered yet. Tobi wanted to fill it. Zuzu wanted to deliver the kite. They left both beside the tile and agreed to come back when the answer belonged to its owner.
Tobi keeps the first step small enough to try. A child can repeat the pattern out loud: first this, next that, and try again if the tile wobbles. The hard part is leaving room for a step another person must choose.
